On Saturday 30th August 2025 the 8th Kildare Maynooth Scout Group celebrated its 50th anniversary of continuous scouting in Maynooth.
A little bit of background
In 1974 a show was put on in Maynooth. The show was Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Joseph’s Coat of many colours was a scout campfire blanket covered in many badges for scouting from all over the world.
Once the children saw the blanket they got very excited and asked:
“Is there Scouts in Maynooth?”
The 8th Kildare St Mary’s Scout Group was then formally established in early 1975.
Since then, so many youth members and adults scouters have experienced their scouting journeys, which included camps, both domestic and foreign, hikes and many different challenges and competitions.
Many Jamborees were attended, and many projects were undertaken within the community. Some of these included: Helping the Senior Citizens at their Annual Sale, helping the SVP at Kerdiffstown House, assisting at the Annual Darkness into Light event, plus helping with various other community events.
And now the 8th Kildare Scouts are looking forward to the next 50 years of Scouting in Maynooth!
