Recent building works in NUIM unearthed documentation which calls into question the 1176 date claimed by Maynooth 850 as the date the town of Maynooth came into being.
The document dated 1116, which we are unable to reproduce because of copyright issues, is believed to be the birth certificate of Mr. John Saults and indicates that he was born in Parsons Street in January 1116.
A wallet containing his communion money, two wooden knees and a football were also among the finds discovered.
The Maynooth 850 committee were unavailable for comment though it is believed a crisis meeting is due to take place in the coming days.
